Description
Summary:This dvd contains two films produced in Germany during the Nazi era, Die Deutsche Wochenschau and Das Bad Auf Der Tenne. The first, Die Deutsche Wochenschau, is a German newsreel which might have played in front of the feature film. The newsreel begins at an athletic stadium where wounded German veterans are enjoying a soccer match. Then to an art gallery where Goebbels tours an exhibit of Nazi sanctioned art. Paintings of heroic German soldiers and bucolic mountain settings predominate. Then to Dusseldorf where mobile soup kitchens are serving hot meals to the survivors of an attack by British and American bombers. Behind the bread lines the camera pans up to encompass a church steeple destroyed by Allied bombs. The newsreel's voice over calmly states that this is the result of American and British air terror bombing. In the feature film Das Bad Auf Der Tenne which is set in the 18th Century in a Flemish village Paul Henckels plays the trader Ule Sleeks who is in the midst of an affair with the mayor's wife. Goebbels described this first color film from Tobis Studios as an ordinary peasant film. Nevertheless, this early color film was immediately attacked by the German Catholic Church due to the partial nudity shown in the film
