I Don't Believe in Ghosts gathers the best and most translatable poems from Meduza "When Albania's Stalinist dictator Enver Hoxha prohibited all religion and religious practices in 1967, he sought to fill the void with a wealth of cultural offerings. It was during this period that Moikom Zeqo served as editor of Drita (The Light), Albania's primary - and official - literary publication. At the same time, Zeqo was also composing the poems in his boldest and most mature book to-date, Meduza. By 1973, however, Hoxha had begun retaliating against the cultural, aesthetic, and educational freedoms he had ushered into Albania."
