|a Videotape testimony of Simon R., who was born in Ozorków, Poland in 1916 to an orthodox family of six children. He recalls his family moving between Ozorków and Łowicz; working from age ten; disbelief that anything bad would occur; opening a store near Ozorków in 1939; German invasion; fleeing to Ozorków; learning the Gestapo was looking for him; hiding in a village; returning to Ozorków; and three months in jail in Łęczyca. Mr. R. tells of his return to Ozorków; his brother's arrest; ghettoization; forced labor; the community saving a boy from public hanging for not wearing the yellow star; classifying of all Jews; killing of the children and old women; transfer to the Łódź ghetto; his privileged job as a fireman; liquidation of the ghetto; transfer to Auschwitz; losing his youngest brother in Birkenau; transfer to a labor camp; escape from a death march; help from German deserters; hiding in Plzeň; help from the Czechs; attempting to reach Palestine after liberation; arriving in Egypt instead; help from the Jewish community; and establishing a business in Egypt. Mr. R. reflects on his constant feeling of danger, and profound sadness as a result of his war experiences
